Scavenger Hunt
Do you think you’re familiar with North Lake Powell?
Here is the ultimate test! These three, land-based scavenger hunts are running all year long and you can find it all right from Ticaboo Lodge!
Rated from Easy to Difficult, some of these finds will take you off the beaten path to some of the most spectacular places in the southwest!
Whether you’re an adventure biker, overlander, OHV rider or just an avid explorer, you can participate in the fun!
In order to count your finds, just take a picture of yourself (or have your picture taken) with/next to each find and submit it to Ticaboo Lodge front desk or to our North Lake Powell Facebook page. Rewards for the scavenger hunts will vary based on the difficulty.
Remember: NONE of the items on the scavenger hunts are to be touched, moved, altered, damaged nor brought back with you for any reason. Please be respectful, stay on the trails and adhere to Leave No Trace practices and remember to have fun!
Easy
All of the items on this hunt are along the same route through Lost Springs, however the Twin Flipped Cars and The Gong may require you to exit your transportation for a very short walk to get your picture with each.
EASY
Twin Flipped Cars
Near the convergence of two trails (13300 + 13380). You will not see them from the road. Will be your first find on this hunt if you take the trail from Ticaboo.
The Gong
You will drive right by this on your way to the last two items. It will be on your right-hand side before you go up the mesa. If you have gotten to the Petrified Tree and Old Dually, you have “gong” too far and you will pass it on your way back down (now on your left)
Old Dually
Out in the open and very hard to miss. Opposite direction of the petrified log once you go up the mesa. Very clear view of Mount Ellsworth from the passenger rear quarter of the vehicle carcass. This side of the trail leads you right to it
Petrified Tree
This tree is over 70ft long, broken in several places. Rests on a dead-end point of the trail, directly overlooking the Tony M. Mine.
Moderate
All of these items are in various directions from Ticaboo, including routes such as Hansen Creek, Ticaboo Mesa Loop and Taste of Ticaboo. The Petroglyphs and the Stove Mannequin will require a short walk from the trail to get your photo.
MODERATE
The Dragons
There are 4 figures and all are mounted in trees/bushes along the same trail. Two (2) of the figures are Dinosaurs, not dragons but still count. It is easy to pass by each figure, so keep your eyes peeled on the bushes along the trail (13300).
The Stove Mannequin
This old stove with a mannequin standing on top can be found towards the beginning of Hansen Creek. It will be on your left if you are traveling north through Hansen Creek from Ticaboo at the mouth of a side canyon (2nd).
Smith Fork Van
Found near the top/beginning of Smith Fork Canyon (Smith Fork is an amazing canyon to hike if you have the time – there are some small downclimbs involved). Found off of the Ticaboo Mesa Loop not far from Danish Knoll on a dead-end trail.
Butt Canyon Petroglyphs
Sometimes referred to as Butte Canyon, will require a short walk from the trail parking Near Buck Spring. In-between Burr Trail/Eggnog Junction and Bullfrog Creek (Taste of Ticaboo). The petroglyphs will be on a flat cliff panel on the opposite side of the canyon, you can get your picture from this side (with the petroglyphs in the background) without walking all the way to the petroglyphs
Difficult
This hunt will require hiking upwards of 2 or more miles for some items. This hunt will require a combination of map reading, longer hikes and the ability to search landscapes using context clues. Remember to respect the land and Leave No Trace!
DIFFICULT
Paul’s Natural Bridge
This is a rather undiscovered Natural Bridge that is nearly a tunnel. You will not find any info on this Natural Bridge on the internet
It is located near the top of Trail Canyon and South Maiden water. You can reach the Bridge from part of the Hiller’s Loop or from Hwy 276. It is not cheating to hire a guide from Ticaboo Lodge.
Pine Point Summit
A very rarely traveled trail with a stunning view of Bullfrog Bay from on top of the mesa that leads nearly to the south end of the Burr Trail. Will require a moderate hike from the end of the trail to the Summit. There is a small jar/cache at the actual Summit (weighed down with some rock cairn) with a notebook, you can write your story in the notebook and take your picture with cache to count your trip.
Piece of Airplane
Can be found near Airplane Spring near Penellen Pass in the Henry’s. Will require hiking 400 yards or more at elevation.
Cannot be found or accessed during winter months (or while snow is present in the Henry Mountains.
